All Things will end!

Well, all things have a season that they begin and they end. Somethings linger longer than you wish, while other things fade too soon. I am no longer serving as a private gardener in Indian Hill. I’m not going to get into the details, but it was taking up too much time from other responsibilities I have to my clients I serve. I will say that I appreciate the time I was able to care for the tropicals I enjoy working with. It was a unique opportunity to be able to work with them in an ornamental landscape environment. Part of the reason I took this job was for that hands on experience with mature plants in a residential landscape setting. This will help me with some ideas and plans that I have been tossing around in my head.

I have been working in my mind ways to make my landscape business more labor friendly for a middle 50’s man to be able to keep up with this type of work as long as possible as a solo operator. Private gardening would be one way, but it would have to be the right type of client. Someone who is appreciative of an experienced landscape professional.

Another option would be to heavily promote and build the plant health care part of the business. This will be labor intensive in education so that the homeowner understands the benefits and value of such a service. Then there is seasonal maintenance which is a great service to bookend the business with and is somewhat friendly on the body.

Then there is the idea that I am working on which is an outside of the box idea that includes several of my passions. My time spent in Indian Hill helped me feel how things need to flow and how plants now commonly seen in the landscape can be used to create a unique experience in the landscape!

I will draw on my experiences to be able to evolve WhiteHouse Landscapes LLC into a diverse landscape design and maintenance company with unique services for my clients.

Eventually all of my efforts are leading me to a life as a plant importer and grow shop owner. My passion is truly tending to small tropical plants, particularly adenium, Pachypodium, plumeria, and various aroids.

My long term plans is to operate a grow shop where I can sell plants, supplies and teach classes. This is something that I can do into my retirement years as long as my health is good. Currently it’s a work in progress!
